Same Badge, Two Completely Different Machines
Chevy gave both vehicles the same name, shared a few design cues, and put the same bowtie on the hood. But anyone who's spent time with both the gas-powered Blazer and the Blazer EV will tell you right away. These are two different animals. Different powertrains, different platforms, different price points, and honestly, different drivers in mind.
- Built on GM's Ultium battery platform, the Blazer EV runs entirely on electricity, while the gas Blazer relies on a turbocharged four-cylinder or V6 engine paired with a 9-speed automatic.
- Gas Blazer pricing starts around $34,300, while the Blazer EV starts at $44,700, though it may qualify for a federal EV tax credit of up to $7,500.
- At the top of the EV lineup, the SS trim produces up to 615 horsepower using Wide Open Watts mode, compared to 308 hp from the gas RS's 3.6L V6.
Different Engines, Different DNA
Two engine choices define the gas Blazer. The standard option is a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder producing 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The RS comes standard with a 3.6L V6 that pushes 308 horsepower and 270 lb-ft, and you can add it to the 3LT as well. Both engines pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission and work with either FWD or AWD. Towing capacity tops out at 4,500 lbs when properly equipped, which gives it a real edge for anyone hauling a trailer or small boat.
Skip the engine altogether. The Blazer EV runs on GM's Ultium battery platform, which sits flat under the cabin floor and keeps the center of gravity low. In LT or RS trim with FWD, it puts out 220 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque. Opt for AWD on either of those trims and output climbs to 300 hp and 355 lb-ft. Then there's the SS, which sits in a category of its own. It puts out 557 horsepower in standard driving and 615 hp when Wide Open Watts mode kicks in, with 650 lb-ft of torque and a GM-estimated 0-to-60 time around 3.4 seconds. For context, that's quicker than a lot of sports cars.
Filling Up vs. Plugging In
With the 2.0L turbo and FWD, the gas Blazer earns an EPA-estimated 25 mpg combined. The V6 trades some of that efficiency for performance. Either way, a full tank gets you roughly 450 miles before you need to stop, and refueling takes a few minutes at any gas station.
Charging is a different kind of routine. The LT and RS with FWD are EPA-estimated at 312 miles per charge. AWD versions come in at 283 miles, and the SS sits at an EPA-estimated 302 miles. Most owners charge overnight at home and start every morning with a full battery. For longer trips, DC fast charging works at up to 150 kW on LT and RS trims and up to 190 kW on the SS. A GM-approved NACS adapter also opens up access to Tesla Supercharger stations, which adds real flexibility on the road.
How the Tech Stacks Up
Both Blazers come standard with Chevy Safety Assist, covering forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and a few other features you'll want in the background on every drive.
When you compare both interiors, the tech difference is hard to miss. Every Blazer EV comes with a 17.7-inch touchscreen and an 11-inch driver information center. Google built-in is standard across all EV trims, so navigation, voice commands, and music work without needing your phone. The gas Blazer uses a 10-inch touchscreen and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which works well for most people but is a smaller setup overall.
Super Cruise, Chevy's hands-free highway driving system that handles lane changes automatically on compatible roads, is available on the Blazer EV LT and RS with AWD and standard on the SS. It's not offered on the gas Blazer at all.

Choosing Based on How You Actually Drive
If you regularly drive long distances without home charging access, need a tow vehicle, or want a lower sticker price, the gas Blazer is the cleaner choice. It's a practical midsize SUV with two solid engine choices and no new ownership habits to build.
Drivers who plug in at home, want a tech-forward cabin, and plan to keep the vehicle long enough to see the savings on fuel and maintenance will get more out of the Blazer EV. The SS is worth a hard look for anyone who wants a daily driver with genuinely surprising acceleration. Charge it like a phone every night, and it's ready to move every morning.
Both vehicles carry the Blazer badge with confidence. After that, you're really choosing between two different ways to get around, and the right one depends entirely on how you live and drive.
